Go And Pay Workers’ Salaries – APC Blasts Fayose Over Presidential Ambition

The All Progressives Congress ( APC) in Ekiti State has criticised Governor Ayodele Fayose for declaring ambition to contest the 2019 presidential election while owing state workers salaries and allowances ranging from six to eight months. The party said the governor’s action is a height of insensitivity to the people’s plights and “irresponsible conduct to behave as if Ekiti State treasury is a personal estate for private comfort”. Fayose had on Thursday declared his presidential ambition at a ceremony held in Abuja, the nation’s capital, in breach of his party’s arrangement to zone the office to the North. But in a statement in Ado-Ekiti by Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party flayed the governor for “being blind to the sufferings of workers while pursuing self-promoting presidential ambition”. He said it was unconscionable for the governor to keep deceiving workers on the state’s poor finances to endure suffering while he enjoyed full life with his family and pursuing mundane fancies without sparing thoughts for the sufferings of the people. “It is the height of wickedness for Fayose to always call teachers to meetings like he did this week to brainwash them on the state’s poor finances and later give them N1,500 pittance for transport until the next brainwashing session with these teachers in empty stomachs while he enjoys full life misapplying state’s money for his fancies. “This is more condemnable against the backdrop of facts available to Ekiti people that Fayose has been awarding contracts at over-bloated costs to his friends outside Ekiti State contrary to his promise to patronise indigenous contractors during his campaigns,” Olatunbosun said. He contended that the money the state had collected so far since the governor’s assumption of office is enough to make the people happy if he had applied the money honestly and transparently, saying his Thursday presidential declaration was to distract the people from alleged funds mismanagement in pursuit of a selfish ambition. “The presidential declaration is a distraction to keep Ekiti busy from keeping attention to his illegality in the application of Ekiti money for selfish purposes and a ploy to embark on whipping up sentiments to escape justice in his misapplication of Ekiti money. “We urge the EFCC to be meticulous in their investigations into how the governor misapplied bailout of N20b, CBN’s N2b loan for small-scale enterprises, N10b loan for projects, N2.8b UBEC/Subeb counterpart fund (which was not matched by the state Govt),Monthly allocation from the Federation Account to Local govt council and Paris Club cash that he has diverted to his ill-motivated projects for selfish motives, while Ekiti people go to bed in empty stomachs,” Olatunbosun concluded.

“Policeman Framed Me For Robbery For Denying Him Sex” – Lady Cries Out

A 27-year-old trader, Mrs. Victoria Amodu, told an Ikeja High Court, Lagos that an Investigative Police Officer (IPO) at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja Division, demanded s*x from her to release her from custody. Amodu, a mother of four, gave the testimony yesterday as a defence witness in her trial for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery, before Justice Kudirat Jose. The defendant, who denied the allegation, was arraigned alongside one Hammed Isiaka on a six-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery, contrary to Section 295(2)(a) of the Criminal Law No 11 Laws of Lagos State, 2011. One of the charges reads, “Hammed Isiaka, Victoria Amodu and others now at large, on or about August 12, 2014 while armed with a pistol did rob one Elizabeth Moses of a cash sum of N35, 000 and a cheque of N1.4m.” However, while being led in evidence by her counsel, Nelson Onyejaka, Amodu told Justice Jose that she was unjustly arrested by the police on August 12, 2014 at Church Bus stop, Badagry, Lagos. She said she was selling bread at the bus stop when policemen raided the area, arrested her and others and bundled them into their truck, where they met some men who were already tied up. Narrating the incident, Amodu said: “I was arrested by the police while I was selling bread and taken to the station at SARS, Ikeja. An IPO (name not mentioned) there told me to call someone that would come for my bail. I called a neighbour, a lady that helps me look after my kids. When she arrived, the IPO said a woman could not sign my bail bond, which he put at N400,000. I became worried because I didn’t know any man to call since I was no longer living with my husband and I was also new in Lagos. I decided to call my father but he refused coming to the station. He said since I was married he had no hand in anything concerning me. “I didn’t know what else to do at this time, so I started begging the IPO to let me go and take care of my kids since I didn’t commit any offence. The IPO took me outside the cell to a corner and said that I am a pretty lady and that if I submit myself to him, I would be freed. I got angry and shouted at him, asking why he would make such a statement to me. He immediately, dragged me back to the cell. Some others who were arrested that day were released after they paid money, though I don’t know how much they paid. “Nights after, the IPO brought out some case files and told me and others in the cell to sign them. He said that when we were done signing, we would be released. I agreed to sign the documents on the condition that he would not touch me. But the other men refused saying they couldn’t sign what they didn’t know. “The IPO immediately brought out his gun and threatened to shoot them if they didn’t sign and they fearfully signed it. “After signing the documents, we were all taken to a Magistrates Court and from there, to Kirikiri Prison.” Amodu pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy and permit her to go home to cater for her children. During cross-examination by prosecution counsel, Mrs. Awosika, Amodu denied knowing the first defendant, Isiaka. She said she had never seen him before and only met him for the first time in court on the day of arraignment. Isiaka, a driver, who also testified while being led by his counsel, Mrs. Olamide Amore-Akintoye, said he was arrested on his way from Seme border while carrying food items belonging to a customer. He said his car was impounded and taken to the station where he was locked up after he failed to pay for his release. Justice José adjourned till November 29 for adoption of final addresses.

Good News For Nigeria As Oil Prices Escalates

Oil prices hit $57 on Monday after the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) maintained the decision to exempt Nigeria and Libya from the oil production cut, TheCable reports.

Members and non-members of the organisation had first agreed on the production cut in December 2016 to ease the supply glut in the market. This caused prices to fall as low as $29 in January 2016.

As of noon on Monday, Brent crude was trading at $57.57 per barrel, an increase of $1.15 from Friday’s trading price of $56.42.

US West Texas Intermediate was trading at $50.91 per barrel, an increase of 29 cents from Friday’s trading price of $50.62 a barrel.

The joint ministerial monitoring committee of OPEC and non-OPEC countries which held in Vienna on Friday had agreed that the original agreement be maintained.

Some countries had expressed concerns about increasing output from Nigeria and Libya.

Emmanuel Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, who led Nigeria’s delegation to the meeting, argued that though Nigeria’s production recovery efforts have made some appreciable progress since October last year, Nigeria is not yet out of the woods.

“OPEC’s actions are working and compliance is acceptable overall, although there needs to be some change. Changes are really related to Libya and Nigeria and the 100 percent compliance of everyone,” Bijan Zanganeh, Iran ‘s oil minister, told journalists on Friday.

However, he did not elaborate on the kind of changes to be made.

University Of Ibadan Resume Academic And Commercial Activities (Read Details)

University of Ibadan have resumed academic and commercial activities after a six-week strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The students have started receiving lectures, while administrative offices were also open for operations. Non-academic staff members were seen in their various offices while businesses in the university were full of activities. Some students, who spoke with NAN, expressed happiness at the suspension of the strike. They thanked ASUU and the Federal Government for fruitful dialogue which led to the suspension of the strike. A first-year law student, Miss Oluwadamilola Salako, told NAN that she was happy when ASUU ended the strike. Salako said that she was bored at home. “I was expecting a prolonged strike and was happy when ASUU stopped the industrial action. “I hope that the academic calendar has not been fully disrupted,’’ she said. A fifth-year student of electrical/electronic engineering, Mr Alo Oluwabamise, also expressed delight at the development. He, however, said that ASUU strike had become recurrent. “The last ASUU strike took almost six months. “All I know is that, for a better education system, the present administration should work toward the total overhaul of the sector. “Strike does not help in any way; it only brings setback. I do not blame ASUU for whatever agitation because the union’s demands are genuine,’’ he said. When contacted, the university’s Director of Communication and Publications, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, said that the management would soon announce an adjusted academic calendar. NAN reports that the university management had in a press release signed by the Registrar, Mr Olu Olujimi, informed the general public, especially students, that second-semester lectures began on Tuesday. Lecturers in public universities, under the aegis of ASUU, embarked on what they described as a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide strike on Aug. 13. The lecturers protested non-implementation of the 2009 agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding it entered into with the Federal Government. The union suspended the strike conditionally on Sept. 18 after dialogues with a Federal Government delegation headed by the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige.

What Will Happen To Nigeria If Buhari Does Not Repent – Lagos Cleric

A popular cleric based in the financial hub of Nigeria, Mr. Oluwadare has advised President Buhari to turn to God for Nigeria’s stability. The General Superintendent of Christ Redemption Bible Church (CRBC) Lagos, Pastor John Oluwadare, has said that until President Muhammadu Buhari becomes born again, Nigeria will remain unstable. He maintained that until other Nigerian leaders show genuine repentance and truly return Nigeria to God, the country might never stop tottering and toddling, even in adulthood. Pastor Oluwadare, advised President Muhammadu Buhari to organise a genuine national prayer so that the country might regain its lost glory. The cleric also urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country. He said the rampaging songs of discord and disunity among the various tribes in the country could only draw the nation backwards, insisting that God had destined Nigeria to be a great nation. The cleric noted also that though God is still very much interested in the Nigeria project, the leaders should rise up and allow the fear of God to rule them. “I have, on several occasions, had encounters with God concerning this country. I have related this several times on our weekly television programme on LTV, Heal My Land. “I can assure you that God is still at work and that is why I am advising President Buhari to urgently declare a national prayer for the nation to regain its lost glory and be among the blessed nations of the world,” he said.

Pass Bills That Will Be Impactful On The Economy – Elumelu Tells National Assembly

Chairman of UBA, Tony Elumelu, has called on the National Assembly to pass progressive bills that will impact positively on the economy, following Nigeria’s exit from recession. He said, “We need the system to work by itself. We need to hold the National Assembly accountable. “We need to encourage the National Assembly and hold them accountable. We need the National Assembly to help us pass progressive bills to help our country.” Elumelu, who is also the chairman of Heirs Holding Limited, made the call in Abuja shortly after he was conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Economic Society at the 58th annual conference of the society. He was honoured alongside the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Prof. Essien Okoh of the University of Benin. Elumelu noted that there were a lot of policies that needed legislative approval to unlock the potential of the economy. He cited the creation of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria through legislation as an example of what good legislation could do. Elumelu also urged the Nigerian Economic Society to come, with recommendations to the government that would help reposition the economy on the path of recovery. Also speaking at the event, Sanusi said certain decisions, which had been taken in the past, were still having adverse consequences on the economy. For instance, he stated that the constitutional provisions that made it mandatory for each state to have a minister, as well as a certain number of legislative seats at the federal, states and local governments, were not necessary. According to the emir, this political structure comes with huge financial burden, and this is why the government had huge amounts as overhead expenses. He said if the government did not address some of the social and political issues, the country was not likely to experience the growth it desired.

Buhari Reportedly Having “Sleepless Nights” Over Threat To Nigeria’s Unity

Professor Richard King, the chairman of the National Book Launch Committee has said President Muhammadu Buhari is really worried about the agitation for secession in Nigeria. According to a report by The Nation, King claimed that Buhari is having sleepless nights over threats to unity by militancy, ethnic separatism and agitation for restructuring by groups. Speaking to journalist in Uyo, on Wednesday, September 27, King said the president desired a cohesive, undivided and peaceful country, hence the inauguration of the committee, aimed at promoting unity. He said: “It is becoming obvious that for the nation to survive the critical moments it is passing through, every well-meaning Nigerian must align with the well-intentioned position of President Buhari to build a cohesive, undivided and peaceful country set along the paths of keeping one, strong and united Nigeria. “The imperative is what the committee seeks to achieve through our present engagement and responsibility; and I believe my colleagues and I are poised to work in that direction and realise the unity of Nigeria.” In a statement sent to journalists, Kawu, himself a former member of the green chamber, also commended the lawmakers for their resolve to work with President Muhammadu Buhari. He commended the 360 members of the House for unanimously passing a resolution to work for the unity of Nigeria in the face of daunting challenges and threats by certain groups.

Breaking News: Cameroon Deports 100,000 Nigerians

Cameroon has deported 100,000 Nigerian refugees in the hope of stemming the spread of terrorist group Boko Haram, Human Rights Watch (HWR) said on Wednesday. The group said in its new report that the deportation defied a plea by UN refugee agency to not return anyone to north-eastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram killed thousands of people, until security and human rights situation improved considerably.” The HRW report noted that the deported people were likely to face new violence, displacement and destitution. The group, which investigates allegations of human rights abuses worldwide, says the report is based on interviews with more than 60 refugees. It added that soldiers tortured, assaulted and sexually exploited Nigerian asylum seekers and denied them access to the UN refugee agency. The rights group claimed Cameroon deported, often violently, tens of thousands of the refugees since early 2015. “The Cameroonian military torture and abuse of Nigerian refugees seems to be driven by an arbitrary decision to punish them for Boko Haram attacks in Cameroon and to discourage Nigerians from seeking asylum,” said HRW Associate Refugee Director, Gerry Simpson. Boko Haram had posed steady threat to communities in north-east Nigeria and launched offensives in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger. The group’s goal is to enforce strict interpretation of Islamic law, known as sharia. Since 2009, tens of thousands of people have died in the hands of Sunni fundamentalists in the region. According to the UN, an estimated 2.7 million people fled their homes due to Boko Haram. NAN r

Gov Obaseki gave 10million bribe to journalist to influence reports, PDP alleges.

The  Edo state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that Governor Godwin Obaseki ‘gifted’ some journalists in the state with the sum of N10 million.
According to the party, immediate past governor of the state, “Adams Oshiomhole, approved the handsome sum of ten million Naira to be ‘dashed’ to a few members of NUJ before he left office”.
Chris Osa Nehikhare, State Publicity Secretary of the party, lamented that the funds taken from Edo state tax payers money, was given to a group of journalists purportedly referred to as ‘friends of Oshiomhole’.
The PDP further noted that “with the revelation of ‘bribery’ of a few (journalists) It is clear reportage may not have been balanced, fair and truthful”.
Nehikhare in a statement issued on Thursday, said, “NUJ is a body we hold in very high esteem. It reports on government activities as well as reactions to the actions and inactions of government. It’s supposed to give a balanced reportage of events in our society. But with the revelation of “bribery” of a few, It is clear reportage may not have been balanced, fair and truthful.
“To our utter surprise, and maybe in continuation of the unholy alliance that existed, Governor Obaseki, who has been pleading lack of funds to pay pensioners, fix roads, equip hospitals and generally run government, made this payment that has now thrown NUJ Edo State chapter into serious crisis.

“It is pertinent at this point to ask Governor Obaseki to reveal other illegal approvals that he met, the value of such approvals and beneficiaries of such approvals”.
He said that there is a need for Edo people to know how much has been misappropriated by the present government since it was sworn in because of loyalty, gratitude and fiduciary relations.
“Just a few weeks ago, the story broke of how Adams Oshiomhole gifted Edo State assets to friends, political cronies and family. It is alleged that over 346 different models of cars belonging to Edo State government are unaccounted for. Lands and buildings in choice areas in the state and other states are some of the assets of EDSG Adams Oshiomhole did “Father Christmas” with. However, many of these assets have been traced to him”, the party alleged.
The Edo PDP spokesperson narrated: “You will recall how Hon Ativie brought EDHA to ridicule in the Jeepsgate scandal. Just as Adams Oshiomhole did in that ongoing scandal, Adams Oshiomhole is once again trying to redefine the purpose for which the money to his ” hatchet men” in the press were gifted such a huge, unbudgeted and appropriated amount.
“What we are seeing and hearing now concerning Adams Oshiomhole’s inglorious years as Governor of Edo State is a tip of the iceberg. You will recall that Edo PDP described EDSG under Adams Oshiomhole as a cesspool of corruption.
“We condemn in very serious terms the attitude of the the Godwin Obaseki led government in playing the ostrich that has buried its head in the sand in the midst of these revelations.
“Gov Godwin Obaseki must begin to reverse all these corrupt acquisitions of government assets, demand for the return of those vehicles and refund of cash “gifts” to friends and cronies!
“A precedent has been set at the federal level where many people have been asked to return money given to them by the immediate past federal government and many are doing just that.
“Edo people deserve more. Edo people deserve better!”, he declared.

“I Was The Target Of The Gunmen At Olubadan Palace Attack” – Former Oyo Governor, Ladoja

Former governor of Oyo State and Osi Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Ladoja has alleged that the gunmen who attacked the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Monday, came to kill him. Recall, the Olubadan and Ladoja have been at war with governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi for crowning 21 kings in a day. The duo have also sued the governor over his action. Some hoodlums had launched an attack on the palace on Monday during the installation of family heads, known as mogajis. The Oyo State chapter of the APC had said Ladoja should be blamed for the attack. Now, the former governor said the monarch was threatened with attacks if he went ahead with the installation. He said; “How can a responsible person organise that AK-47 and pump action guns be shot at his direction. Are AK-47 and pump action guns toys that can be played with? “We urge security agencies to beam their searchlight on the APC and their agents in the state so as to unravel the perpetrators of the act. “They sent their killer squad to kill Ladoja but unfortunately for them, the bullet hit another vehicle that belongs to Sarafadeen Alli, a senior chief of the Olubadan, with the hope that the vehicle belonged to Ladoja. The damage done to the vehicle and the incident has been reported to security agencies. “It is noteworthy that some bystanders were able to identify the vehicle and some of the hoodlums, which include one aide that usually accompanies a High Chief, who is now an Oba and who is also a signatory to the purported letter written by the so-called Oba-in-Council against the Olubadan. “It should be recalled that preparatory to the installation at the palace, a set of people, who called themselves Ibadan Oba-in-Council, wrote a letter of protest to the Olubadan, telling him not to carry out his lawful duties. “Based on the letter, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters wrote another letter threatening the Olubadan of great consequences should he go ahead with his lawful programme. “Not satisfied with a fake delivery record on the letter, they went with Operation Burst soldiers and riot policemen fully armed to paste the letters on the wall of the Olubadan palace.”

PDP Should Apologise To Nigerians For Mismanagement Of Nation’s Resources – Ex Deputy Senate President

A former Deputy Senate President yesterday spoke of the need for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to apologise to Nigerians for the way it ran its affairs and the affairs of the country. Alluding to the mismanagement of the nation’s resources by some former public servants who are members of the former ruling party, Senator Ibrahim Mantu said: “I am now born again. Whatever I say now is the truth. Some people came to the PDP with nothing and left with billions (of naira). We need to bring the party to the people now.” He spoke in Abuja yesterday when former Minister of Education Prof. Tunde Adeniran announced his plan to run for PDP national chairman. Mantu has enjoined stakeholders and members of the party to support Adeniran’s aspiration. According to him, Adeniran is “God’s choice” for the office. He said he consulted God by praying and fasting over Adeniran’s aspiration and that God gave him the revelation. Manu said: “I fasted for 30 days and 30 nights, asking God to show me who would lead the party. God showed me Adeniran. Let’s now look forward and make sure that we elect a credible chairman. We should make sure that nobody short-changes us at the national convention.” The ex lawmaker, one of the proponents and promoters of a third term for former President Olusegun Obasanjo, urged to the gathering of party faithful to start taking his words seriously because he had become a “born again” politician. Mantu added that it had become necessary for the PDP to be sober and apologise to Nigerians for the wrongs of the past. Adeniran said the party’s convention, tentatively slated for December 9, would be an opportunity for the PDP to bounce back to power. He called for reconciliation among the various groups and stakeholders for the party to be united and make progress. The aspirant solicited support from party faithful and stakeholders across the six geopolitical zones and pledged to work tirelessly to entrench principles in the PDP if elected. Others in the race include a former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George; a former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel; and former Sports Minister Prof. Taoheed Adedoja.

Buhari Should Dialogue With Respectable Igbo Leaders, Not Kanu – APC Chief

Tunde Ajibulu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday said President Muhammadu Buhari should dialogue with respectable leaders in the South East to find a lasting solution to the current agitation in the region. He however disagreed with those asking the president to dialogue with Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) saying Kanu who is currently in hiding after the Operation Python Dance exercise in Abia state is a lily-livered charlatan and opportunist. It will be recalled that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had advised President Buhari to dialogue with Kanu. The former president in an interview with the Newsweek Magazine, had said there is nothing wrong in having a discussion with the aggrieved group. According to him : “I don’t see anything wrong in that [Buhari meeting with Kanu]. I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it. “I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, [and ask:] ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the southeast but from all parts of Nigeria.” However, many Nigerians said it is hypocritical of Obasanjo to call for dialogue, a measure he didn’t take during his tenure as President especially as regards Odi in Bayelsa and Zaki Biam in Benue state. Ajibulu, who spoke in an interview with sources, said “Desperate times calls for desperate measures. These are real desperate times, we must crush charlatans attempting to destabilise and sow division in our country”. “With all due respect to President Obasanjo, I believe he is right to an extent. I think President Buhari has to dialogue but that must be done with respected and distinguished people in Igbo land; not with riff raffs like Kanu. Who is he? What is he? What are his antecedents? He is a lily livered charlatan and opportunist who has started showing his true colours” he said.

Huge!! Coca-cola Nigeria Okays $600m For Expansion (Details)

Coca-Cola Nigeria will invest $600 million by 2020 to boost sales, in line with a global strategy to extend the product range beyond its soft drinks. The unit of the Atlanta-based beverage maker plans to expand its offering of drinks to include flavored and condensed milk, iced tea and bottled water to meet demand in Africa’s most populous country. Its President, West Africa operation, Peter Njonjo spoke in an interview in Lagos, said: “Our objective is to provide whatever beverages you need across your life stages.” The money is part of a pledge by Coca-Cola to invest $17 billion in Africa by 2020. Its Global Chief Executive Officer James Quincey has said the company needs to grow beyond its biggest brand and has called for the soda giant to become a “total beverage company,” being less reliant on carbonated soft drinks. Last year, Coca-Cola bought a 40 per cent stake in Nigerian juice and dairy company Chi Ltd. for $240 million and said at the time it intended to take total control within three years. Coca-Cola has felt the pinch of an economic slump in Nigeria caused by a decline in output and prices of oil, the nation’s main foreign-exchange earner, and dollar shortages. The economy expanded 0.6 per cent in the three months through June, ending five straight quarters of contractions that saw gross domestic product shrink 1.6 per cent in 2016, the first time since 1991. High inflation increased production costs, while the price of imported goods rose due to the dollar scarcity, just as consumers had less money to spend, Njonjo, 41, said. The company, which has 3,600 direct employees, 11 bottling plants and 30 distribution depots across Nigeria, isn’t listed in the West African nation and Njonjo declined to share details on production capacity or earnings. After peaking at 18.7 per cent in January, the inflation rate fell to 16 per cent in August, while food prices have continued to surge. This is “a big issue,” for Coca-Cola, present in Nigeria since 1951, Njonjo said. “As disposable incomes start getting under pressure, expenditure in products like ours start becoming inaccessible to most consumers,” he said. In response to the challenges in Nigeria, Coca-Cola increased prices, introduced new product-sizes and sought more inputs locally. To reduce its foreign-exchange exposure, the company plans to raise to 75 per cent the share of raw materials produced in Nigeria by 2020, from 70 percent currently, Njonjo said.

See The List Of The 23 States In Nigeria That Exceeded Borrowing Limits– FRC

Contrary to the guidelines of the Debt Management Office on subnational borrowing, 23 states of the federation exceeded their borrowing limits in 2015, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission has said. In a report on the states and indebtedness, the FRC said Lagos, Kaduna, Cross River, Gombe, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo and Imo states had borrowed more than 50 per cent of their annual statutory allocations by 2015. Other states in the same boat are Zamfara, Adamawa, Oyo, Abia, Ogun, Taraba, Kebbi, Enugu, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Kano, Benue, Kwara, Katsina and Sokoto. The FRC added that when total revenue (gross statutory allocation plus Internally Generated Revenue) was used as the yardstick for measuring the level of indebtedness of the states, a total of 20 states borrowed more than their total revenues in 2015. The report read in part, “In the light of the DMO’s Guidelines on Debt Management Framework, particularly as it pertains to debt sustainability, the debt to income ratio of states should not exceed 50 per cent of the statutory revenue for the preceding 12 months. “In effect, state governments have a subsisting, though not in line with FRA, 2007, loan policy, which requires states governments not to owe more than 50 per cent of their statutory revenue for the previous 12 months. “The Federal Government, on the other hand, is expected not to accumulate debt more than 40 per cent of the national Gross Domestic Product. Bearing this in mind, 23 states exceeded the threshold of 50 per cent of their gross/net statutory allocations during the year 2015. “However, out of the 23 states, only 20 states exceeded the threshold of 50 per cent of their total revenue – gross statutory allocation plus Internally Generated Revenue.” The report also stated, “Lagos exceeded the threshold of 50 per cent of its gross statutory allocation by well over 300 per cent; Kaduna, Cross River, Gombe, Ekiti, Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Abia and Ogun exceeded the 50 per cent of their gross statutory allocations by well over 50 per cent but less than 100 per cent. “Imo, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Enugu, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Kano, Benue, Kwara, Katsina, and Sokoto states exceeded the 50 per cent of their gross statutory allocations by less than 50 per cent. “On the basis of total revenue rather than gross statutory allocation, 20 states exceeded the threshold of 50 per cent. Of the 23 states that exceeded the threshold of their gross/net statutory allocations, Kwara, Katsina and Sokoto states did not exceed the 50 per cent threshold of their consolidated debt to total revenue. “From 2012 to 2015, five states consistently exceeded the threshold of 50 per cent of their gross statutory allocations. The states are Kaduna, Lagos, Ogun, Cross River and Osun.”

Why It Is Dangerous To Use Broom To Mash ‘Ewedu’ – Gastroenterologist Warns Nigerians

A doctor of the Department of Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Wednesday, advised women and caterers to desist from the age-old practice of using broomsticks to mash ewedu. Using a small bunch of broomsticks, known as ijabe, to mash ewedu (mallow-leaves) is very common among Nigerians when preparing the slimy soup. However, medical experts have said that the age-old practice is actually fraught with dangers. Ewedu is also known as Rama ayoyo among Hausa, while the Igbo call it Kerenkere. Dr. Adegboyega Akere of the Department of Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan, on Wednesday, advised women and caterers to desist from the practice. Akere, a Consultant Gastroenterologist, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan that food handlers should always use blender for ewedu and every other ingredient used in cooking it. “They should not use broom to mash the vegetable,” he said. Akere said this is because ewedu soup that is mashed with broomsticks could still retain splinters of the broom, however minute. He said that when eaten, the splinters from the broomsticks could get trapped inside the oesophagus or the intestine. Akere disclosed that someone who had eaten the soup containing a tiny piece of broomstick was rushed to the UCH recently. “The broomstick settled in her intestine and did not digest. This resulted in the inflammation of the intestine. “Two days after, the patient complained of severe stomach pains and a CT-Scan revealed that a broomstick was lodging inside her intestine. “A surgical operation was carried out and in less than 24 hours, the patient was on her feet moving about. This clarion call is necessary because ewedu soup is the local soup of people in this part of Nigeria. “The locals prefer it to any other soup; therefore, I will advise them to either blend or grind it on the stone before cooking,” he said. Akere also warned that when someone ingests strange objects, they could develop gastroenterology-related diseases. “Mothers must also be careful while preparing this soup, as it is the most common among the locals in weaning their babies,” he warned. "Letter To Upcoming Politicians"-300Level Student Of UniOsun Wrote A Letter To The Upcoming Politicians.

Letter to upcoming politicians
It is pathetic that corruption is a source of living in our beloved country (nigeria). The country is governed by evil and corrupted dominant class whereby poverty, wretchedness has invaded almost the nooks and cranny of the country. Hardly can some part of the country avoid 3 daily meal whearas our prominent leaders are multiplying their figures. We majority which only have our says are found of ''Niger go better'' and the minority (leaders) who always have their way keep feeding us with promises they would never fulfill and here we are saying ''Niger go better", when, how by who please?. I kept on pondering in this question everyday.
Corruption has invaded the country to the extent that human live is meaningless to our leaders. Imagine a leader embelze money meant for aminations to fight terrorist. NIGERIA is blessed with mineral resources but termites (leaders) don't make it useful to us. You wake up in the morning switch in your T.V to listen to figures embelzed by our leaders.
Let's aim to change Nigeria (upcoming politicians) by ignoring the promises made by them, these promises are only meant to change opinion about them, once they get to where they are aiming for they will forget all they have said. No politician should be given a second chance once they rule us bad.
In conclusion, the answer to how, who and when "Naira go better" is to the upcoming leaders. Aim to change Nigeria for good, efforts made by nationalist leaders should not be in vain future politician should always aim for good change and always pray to God. God bless NIGERIA

"We Must Be Like A Family" Edison Cavani Stresses Out After A Heavy Win Over The German Giants Bayern Munich.

Edinson Cavani has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain must be a "family" on the pitch, despite recent bad blood between the Uruguayan and record signing Neymar.
Tensions between the striking pair were sparked when Neymar and Cavani clashed over the taking of a penalty.
That kick, eventually missed by Cavani - the club's long-time penalty taker - against Lyon, raised suggestions of a rift between the Brazilian and other members of the PSG first team.
But speaking after a 3-0 thrashing of Bayern Munich in Wednesday's Champions League clash, Cavani asserted that the atmosphere at the club was positive.

Antony Martial's Speed Kills As Manchester United Is Dominant In Group A Of The Champions League

Manchester United blasted past a poor CSKA Moscow side and look well placed to banish the memories of their last tilt at the trophy
When Manchester United were last a Champions League club, it was their miserable group-stage exit which ensured the writing was on the wall for manager Louis van Gaal.
Their 2017-18 campaign could barely be more different to date, with Wednesday’s Anthony Martial-inspired 4-1 victory away to CSKA Moscow putting them in a dominant position in Group A.
Lukaku scored twice as a dominant Manchester United won 4-1 at CSKA Moscow in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday.
Lukaku claimed his ninth and 10th goals of the season for United with a header and a close-range finish either side of Anthony Martial's penalty as United went into the break 3-0 up.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it 4-0 after the break with a rebounded effort, and if it wasn't for home goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev making a string of saves, it could have ended much worst for CSKA, who grabbed a late consolation through 19-year-old substitute Konstantin Kuchaev.

Michy Batshuayi Celebrates Late Victory For Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi celebrates his late winner for Chelsea
Michy Batshuayi popped up with another crucial Chelsea goal as his 93rd-minute strike sealed a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
With Diego Costa watching on from the stands, Batshuayi, who scored the title-winning goal for Antonio Conte's side at West Brom last season, turned home a cross with the last kick of what was a compelling encounter which Chelsea edged.
Antoine Griezmann had fired Atletico ahead from the spot in the Wanda Metropolitano, which was hosting Champions League football for the first time.
However, Chelsea always looked a threat and Alvaro Morata headed his seventh goal of his Blues career before Batshuayi sent the travelling faithful wild with his late winner.

Man of the match: Eden Hazard
The dramatic finish gave Chelsea two wins from two Champions League Group C games.
Chelsea beat Qarabag 6-0 in the opening round but this was a different test against a genuine European giant, who had won 30 of their last 36 European games at home.
There was no fear in Chelsea's approach, though, as shown when Morata dragged a shot wide inside 10 minutes and Eden Hazard struck a post with a deflected strike from distance.
Thomas Partey chases down Eden Hazard
Atletico were second best and had struggled for rhythm until they were presented with a spot-kick by David Luiz, who pulled Lucas Hernandez's shirt in the box from a corner. Griezmann struck home the penalty.
Chelsea wobbled near half-time and when Thibaut Courtois parried Koke's shot straight to Angel Correa it looked as though the Blues would be going in 2-0 behind. However, the usually clinical Atletico man fired wide.
Team news
Antonio Conte made four changes fro their 4-0 win at Stoke. Eden Hazard, David Luiz, Cesc Fabregas and Gary Cahill all returned to the line-up.
Chelsea equalised when the brilliant Hazard crossed right-footed from the left and Morata netted with a precise glancing header.

Antonio Conte congratulates Chelsea players after Alvaro Morata's equaliser
Cesc Fabregas spurned an effort from close range just wide before Morata spurned a difficult one-on-one chance.
But the visitors kept pressing and Batshuayi, who replaced Morata, was in the right place at the right time to turn home a Marcos Alonso cross.
Man of the match - Eden Hazard
The little genius is back. On his first start outside the Carabao Cup this season, he simply ran the show in behind Morata. The Belgian carried the ball past defenders at will and his quality in the final third shone brightly. His cross for Morata's goal was the key turning point in the game. Premier League defences beware.

I Will Go Back To Italy, I’m Missing Home – Antonio Conte

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has insisted that he will return to manage Italy in future, adding that he misses his homeland. Conte said he has, “nostalgia” for his homeland and is aiming to return to Serie A in the future. The Italian took over at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of last season and led the Blues to the Premier League title on first attempt. It was Conte’s first job outside of Italy, having previously managed Arezzo, Bari, Atalanta, Siena, Juventus and the Italian national team. The 48-year-old also spent his entire playing career in the country, featuring for Lecce and Juventus. He told Radio Rai, “I have nostalgia for Italy. I did not have it in my head to stay abroad for so long. “Once I have had some more nice experiences I will return to Italy, for sure. I don’t know when, but the goal is to do that. “Foreseeing the future is always difficult. Ours is the most precarious work as you are in one place today and tomorrow you are in another. “I have the will to finish a project, and then look for the right continuation of that. “The English experience has greatly enriched me, and I’d like to carry on as manager in the future.”

Sergio Aguero Is The Only Premier League World Class Striker – Thierry Henry

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has explained that Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is the only world class forward currently playing in the Premier League. The Frenchman however rated the Argentine superstar ahead of Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata, Manchester United man Romelu Lukaku and Spurs’ Harry Kane. This season in the Premier League, Aguero, Lukaku, Morata and Kane have been superb for their clubs after six games, but Henry believes Aguero is the best forward in England. “The only one who is world class or has been world class is Aguero because of the longevity of what he has done in the Premier League year in and year out. “He won the League here and he has been doing it the longest. “You have to give him a bit of credit. I think sometimes we bypass Aguero like he didn’t happen.” Henry explained. Aguero, 29, will join Eric Brook as City’s all-time top scorer with 177 goals should he net against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday night, September 26.

N4.9bn Laundering Allegation: Fani-Kayode To Be Tried In Lagos

Justice Rilwan Aikwa of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that the money laundering case of N4.9 billion against Femi Fani Kayode will be heard in the Lagos Federal High Court. The court stated that the case cannot be transferred to Abuja because the Chief Judge had reassigned the case from justice Muslim Hassan to him and that if the Chief Judge wanted to transfer the case he would have. The court further stated that some of the transactions in question happened in Lagos, therefore the Federal High Court has jurisdiction over the case. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta, had earlier reassigned the case involving the former Minister of Aviation to Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Lagos, following the withdrawal of Justice Muslim Hassan from the suit in March 2017. Fani-Kayode had earlier approached the Federal High Court in Lagos to hands off his trial on allegations of money laundering. His Counsel, Norrison Quakers, SAN, asked Justice Rilwan Aikawa to instead order that the case should be transferred to the Abuja division of the court.
